Alankrit Srivastava Receives the Prestigious Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF)

I am pleased to announce that Alankrit Srivastava, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Aerospace Engineering has received the prestigious Prime Ministers' Research Fellowship (PMRF) for a period of four years. He is currently doing his Ph.D. thesis under my supervision on topics related to Fire Science. The PMRF Fellowship is a highly competitive Fellowship scheme where the students are selected through a rigorous selection process. Each Fellow under this scheme receives a Fellowship ranging from Rs 70,000-80,000 per month. Apart from this, each Fellow would be eligible for a research grant of Rs. 2 Lakhs per year (a total of Rs 10 Lakhs for five years).  I wish him all the success in his future endeavors!!  Dated: 11th April 2022.

The paper titled "Horizontal Solid Burning Under Laminar Forced Convection and Turbulent Buoyant Convection with an Unheated Segment" provides crucial information regarding the effects of an unheated segment on the transitioning mechanism of a wind-driven flame. International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer is the top-most scientific journal in the field of heat and mass transfer. Dated: 19th March 2022.

D Santosh Kumar successfully defends his M.Tech. Thesis

D Santosh Kumar, an M.Tech. student in the Department of Aerospace Engineering has successfully defended his thesis "On Exploring and Enhancing the Detonability Limits of Detonation-based Combustors Using Hydrogen and JP-8 as Target Fuels"  on August 20 2020. Mr. Kumar's masters' thesis addressed the issue of the operation of detonation-based engines at leaner mixtures while maintaining the stable detonation wave. In contrast to the above application-based scenario, Mr. Kumar's thesis also deals with the understanding of the detonation phenomena in terms of initiation, sustenance, and propagation of detonation waves in enclosures, which is essential for detonation inhibition in case of accidental explosions. Kiran Ivin successfully defends his M.Tech. Thesis

Kiran Ivin, an M.Tech. student in the Department of Aerospace Engineering has successfully defended his thesis "Numerical Prediction of Critical Parameters in Gaseous Detonations Using Ethylene and JP-10 as Target Fuels"  on August 12 2020.  Mr. Ivin's thesis deals with the use of ignition promoters for the stabilisation and sustainment of detonation waves for applications in detonation-based engines. I wish him all the success for his future endeavours! Abhinandan Singh successfully defends his MS by Research Thesis

​

Abhinandan Singh, an M.S. by Research student in the Department of Aerospace Engineering has successfully defended his thesis "Experimental Investigation of Turbulent Wind-Driven Flames Under Varying Freestream Conditions"  on August 7 2020. His thesis includes new experimental data on wind-driven turbulent fires that would be extremely useful and significant for wildland fire spread modeling and other wind-driven turbulent fires. Mr. Singh’s MSR thesis was sent for an external review where his research work received outstanding remarks from the external reviewer. I want to quote the comments of an external reviewer as it is “The thesis was found to have a very good technical content with high-quality experimental data on turbulent wind-driven flames that led to the formulation of the useful power-law relationship between mean and local mass burning rate and a non-dimensional parameter that incorporates Reynolds number, Grashof number and the turbulence intensity of the flow.” I wish him all the success for his future endeavours!
